Kevin Harvick dominated Friday night's Fast Five 225 at the Chicagoland Speedway, but it was late race pit strategy that saw Austin Dillon drive into Victory Lane.
Harvick finished second, just ahead of his KHI teammate Nelson Piquet, Jr. Parker Kligerman and Kyle Busch rounded out the top five.
It was the No. 2 of Harvick that dominated the race, leading twice during the night for 99 laps. On lap 29 a vibration caused Harvick to come down pit road and give up the lead; with Harvick left to battle Busch for second, it was Austin Dillon, who had just taken two tires during his final pit stop, maintained the lead and captured the checkered flag.
"(Crew chief Danny Stockman) knows when I get out front it's like smelling blood for a shark. When we got out there, we could just take off. The team-- they kept gaining spots every time we came on pit road. I love coming on pit road when they're like that. It's awesome."
The win, Dillon's second of the year, sent him up two spots up in points to second, just three points behind leader James Buescher and three ahead of third place Johnny Sauter.
Next Saturday the Camping World Truck Series takes to the New Hampshire Motor Speedway for the F.W. Webb 175. Coverage begins at 3 pm ET on SPEED.
