On Friday night two drivers were looking to lock themselves into the Sprint All Star race on Saturday night. The list of drivers looking to earn their spot into the race included Clint Bowyer, Danica Patrick, Casey Mears along with Kyle Larson to name just a few.
Austin Dillon earned the pole for the Sprint Showdown race and would lead the charge at the front. It was AJ Allmendinger who would take the lead. Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. got loose and lost a few positions. Stenhuse trying to get to the bottom made contact with Marcos Ambrose and Ambrose went spinning.
Allmendinger would lead the field back to green with Clint Bowyer in second. Bowyer would struggle on the restart and Larson would lose third gear. Larson dropped to the back but quickly made his way back through the field.
Ambrose restarted 18th but made his way up to seventh before the caution waved for segment two.
On the restart, Bowyer and Allmendinger pulled away but Ambrose would make a charge at the front two. Dillon who took two tires but had a ill handling race car would lose multiple positions on the restart.
Bowyer would pull away and hold off Allmendinger but both of them would race their way into the Sprint All Star race.
