The NASCAR Sprint Cup series hit Texas Motor Speedway on Friday for qualifying. TMS is a fast track and the speeds in qualifying showed just that.
This weeks Coors Light Beer Pole winner was Tony Stewart with a lap of 28.22 seconds. His first pole since 2005.
The outside pole went to with Sam Hornish, Jr. with a time of 28.24 seconds; he was the leading Dodge qualifier.
The Chevrolets were looking to get back on the front row for Sunday’s race and that they did with Stewart. Jimmie Johnson was not far behind with a lap of 28.29, starting fourth Sunday. Last years race winner Jeff Gordon was only 12th fastest on Friday.
Jeff Burton will start sixth leading Richard Childress Racing. Clint Bowyer, eighth and Kevin Harvick will start 19th.
Roush Fenway Racing and Ford have always run strong here and the results should not be very surprising with Greg Biffle leading the charge in third. Kasey Kahne will start fifth and the third fastest Ford was Biffle’s teammate David Ragan, starting 13th.
Leading the Dodge charge was Sam Hornish, Jr. who was backing up his run last week, starting on Sunday.Teammates Kurt Busch and Brad Keselowski will start 11th and 36th, respectively.
The fastest Toyota on Friday was Kyle Busch with a lap of 28.38 seconds, good enough for ninth. Other Toyota results were Martin Truex, Jr. in 14th and David Reutimann in 16th.
Last years Rookie of the Year, Joey Logano will start 18th.
Some notable qualifiers on Friday were Carl Edwards will start 20th. Mark Martin will start 29th and Denny Hamlin another poor qualifying run, starting 28th. Dale Earnhardt, Jr. will start ninth.
The drivers not racing on Sunday are Johnny Sauter, David Stremme and Terry Cook.
The Samsung 500 is Sunday, 3 ET on FOX.
